五月時看了這本書, 我的第二本傲慢與偏見續集. 作者是Amanda Grange (她同時也写了一本達西其實是吸血鬼的故事. 只是我没打算看), 她以日記形式叙述達西和伊麗莎白相遇相識到相愛的過程. 在Jane Austen 的原著中, 整個故事是根據伊麗莎白的觀點循序展開. 讀者跟著伊麗莎白進入她的日常生活; 旁聽她和家人朋友的對話. 相反地, 達西這個重要男主角的出場次數很少. 我們知道他那幾次與伊麗莎白的對話; 但他心里真正想的是什麼, 還有他與伊麗莎白分隔兩地時在做些什麼, Jane Austen 没有直接交代. 這本書就是針對達西的內心想法, 愛與不愛的掙扎做了令人信服的描述.

書的結尾完全是作者根據Austen的描叙而做的想像. 其中增加了一些描寫達西表妹Anne的場景; 也加入了伊麗莎白和達西專横的姨媽Lady Catherine之間精彩的對手戲, 更顯示伊麗莎白靈活巧妙的個性, 有主見又不固執於自己的偏見.

在看這本書時, 原著也在手邊, 因為常要翻找出同一場景做比較, 很多對話出自原文, 而有了這本日記, 终於知道達西心底的感覺, 更能欣賞原書. 我認為這本Mr. Darcy's Diary 是很好的輔助閱讀, 與原書相輔相成.
