美國鄉村歌手兼詞曲作家Lacy J. Dalton於1946出生在一個喜歡音樂的家庭。1967，加入了一個名為Office的搖滾樂團，直到參與的最後一個樂團以失敗告終，Lacy在音樂的道路上仍不斷的努力。1979，Lacy與Colombia唱片公司簽下合約，並發行了首張同名專輯《Lacy J. Dalton》，獲得鄉村榜第11名，同時也贏得了「鄉村音樂協會 ( CMA )」 頒發的「最佳新人女歌手」獎項。

此首《Beer Drinkin' Song》收錄於上述專輯，並作為同專輯另首《Tennessee Waltz》的單曲B面發行。老美關於喝酒的鄉村歌曲相當的多，而大部份都是喝啤酒或威士忌，此曲中所提到的啤酒品牌「blue ribbon」「Lone Star」，在台似未進口販售 ( 美啤的「美樂」和「百威」則較為普遍 )。歌中寫信給Lacy的老兄，是當年喜歡在一起喝酒的朋友，而因工作意外致Charlene ( 老婆？) 帶走了孩子，開始借酒澆愁，但後來有認真開 (貨？)車支付生活開銷，並改喝大量咖啡戒酒癮，這般的結果也算是有點「勵志」了。

Lacy在Office樂團時遇到了John Croston，John之後成為她的經紀和合夥人，倆人於1971結婚並育有一子。而不幸的是John在游泳時與另位選手相撞造成了癱瘓，在三年後也就是1974年過世 ( 在泳池雙方快速頭部對撞，的確相當危險 )。

此曲A面的《Tennessee Waltz》是首經典的鄉村歌曲，講的是和心愛的男友去跳華爾滋，未預期遇見了自己的女性舊友，經過介紹，未料朋友竟搶走了男友 ( 當然男友自己也大有問題 )，讓人心碎不已。最著名的為Patti Page 1950的版本。而Lacy的版本經重新編曲及採自己的唱法，另有一番韻味 ( 唱得相當棒 )，獲得鄉村榜第18名，就一併貼上了。
