此曲為美國歌手Eddie Cochran自寫自唱，1958獲得告示牌熱門排行榜第8名，在英國單曲排行榜則為第18名。

Eddie Cochran也是自小就喜歡音樂，除了自學「藍調」吉他，在學校時也參加樂團。16歲時，和另一位吉他手Hank Cochran ( 倆人並無親戚關係 ) 共組二重唱，但在隔年就散夥了，接著開始從事寫歌的工作。Eddie Cochran真正開始出名是因為參與了1956的電影《The Girl Can't Help It》( 中譯：春風得意 )，在片中飾演自己，並演唱自己的歌《Twenty Flight Rock》← ( 此曲為當年15歲的Paul McCartney被介紹給John Lennon時，對John Lennon試唱的第一首歌。 )。



套用現在的話來說，Eddie Cochran算是位「大帥哥」。1957，又再參與演出他的第2部電影《Untamed Youth》。之後，推出包含此首《Summertime Blues》在內的多首熱門曲，終於嶄露頭角，成了當紅炸子雞。1960，Eddie Cochran赴英國巡迴演唱，在搭計程車時遇上事故，竟意外身亡，當時只有21歲。諷刺的是，Eddie Cochran為了向在1959因飛機失事，意外身亡的朋友Buddy Holly等三人致敬，錄了首《Three Stars》，歌曲尚未發行，就也輪上了自己 ( 這老天爺的玩笑也真的是開得太大了 )。1987，Eddie Cochran獲得推薦進入了搖滾名人堂。
