上一篇談到Neil Diamond替The Monkees寫出了冠軍曲《I'm A Beliver》，而此首於1970發行的《Cracklin' Rosie》，則是他真正自寫自唱首支的冠軍曲。

此曲是Neil Diamond寫給加拿大電台CKLW的音樂總監Rosalie Trombley的，Rosalie Trombley的「聽感」極負盛名，只要被她相中列入播放名單中的歌曲，都很有機會竄紅。由於Neil Diamond之前曾被她打槍了幾次，於此曲歌詞中的疊句「play it now」，被認為是直接在向Rosalie Trombley喊話懇求：現在就播吧！^^

其實，「Cracklin' Rosie」是一種酒名。Neil Diamond在後來的訪談中透露，他寫這首歌的靈感來源，是聽到一個關於加拿大原住民保留區部落的故事，由於當地男多女少，週末時約不到女伴的男士，就大家圍坐一圈，手中抱著這種稱之為「Cracklin' Rosie」的酒，看來是自我也是相互的安慰吧！歌詞中：Cracklin' Rose, you're a store bought woman，有些嘲諷別人有女伴，自己也有由店裡買來的「女人」。呵呵！的確有那種失意的意境及趣味性。

雖然Neil Diamond自己的冠軍曲只有三首，卻是縱橫歌壇逾半世紀的國際知名歌手。今年 ( 2018 ) 年初，77歲的Neil Diamond忽然自爆得了帕金森氏症，故取消了「出道50年巡迴演唱會」剩餘場次的表演。不過，他表示仍會繼續創作及錄音，要粉絲不用太難過。對此感慨之餘，不禁令想起了麥克阿瑟的名言：老兵不死，只是逐漸凋零。
