此首《Paper Roses》的原唱為美國女歌手Anita Rryant，在1960拿下了告示牌流行金曲排行榜的第5名，也是她在歌唱生涯中，成績最好的一首歌曲。



70年代初期，The Osmonds ( 奧斯蒙兄弟合唱團 ) 已在流行音樂界奠定了他們的歌星地位，尤其是Donny Osmond，更成為了青少年們的偶像。此時，The Osmonds的經理說服Marie Osmond，不妨也來試試身手，因此，Marie Osmond偶也會出現在哥哥們巡迴表演的舞台上。但Marie Osmond有自己的想法，她不想追隨哥哥們的既有曲風，而是欲朝向鄉村歌曲發展，也隨即簽入了MGM唱片公司的旗下。

當唱片公司的製作總監Mike Curb看遍了Donny Osmond曾經翻唱的老歌後，想為Marie Osmond的第一張專輯找一些鄉村歌曲，此時，Sonny James ( 曾為知名歌手﹝註﹞，後為此曲的製作人。) 建議翻唱此首《Paper Roses》。這也成為Marie Osmond第一首錄唱的歌和第一首發行的單曲。此曲於1973年8月發行，11月即攻上鄉村榜的冠軍，距Marie Osmond的14歲生日，才剛過不到一個月，這也使得她成為告示牌鄉村榜最年輕的冠軍女歌手，此記錄至今尚未被打破。眼看著《Paper Roses》的成功，想打鐵趁熱，再翻唱Anita Rryant的另一首熱門曲《My Little Corner of the World》，可惜未能如願，只得到鄉村榜第33名。
