在通訊和交通並不發達的年代，被派往外地服役的男人，的確常會遭到女友「兵變」。要不就是收到一封「Dear John Letter」，或是原有的電話號碼失效而失聯。此首《Operator》的內容即是男主角在外地，女友卻和他的麻吉兄弟Ray跑了，他央求電話接線生，替他找出女友的電話，以便打去告訴女友，他已渡過了這個打擊，也體認到要去面對接受。但在接線生給了他號碼之後，他仍無法撥打此通電話，說是眼睛裡有東西，其實是因為仍很難過，眼中已溢滿了淚水而無法看得清號碼了………。

這是Jim Croce自寫自唱的歌曲，1972獲告示牌熱門100排行榜第17名。從1966至1973，Jim Croce共出過5張專輯和11首單曲，其中有兩首冠軍曲。但這顆才昇起的閃耀之星，卻不幸的急速殞落，Jim Croce於1973死於飛機失事，僅得年30歲。

Jim Croce的遺孀Ingrid Croce之前亦為歌手，1985轉戰餐飲業，在聖地牙哥開了以Croce為主題的餐廳和爵士吧，將Jim Croce的相片、歌詞原稿及吉他等展示供客人參觀，但該餐廳目前已歇業。
