說起清水合唱團 ( Creedence Clearwater Revival ) 的主唱兼主奏吉他手John Fogerty，這位老兄無論是在唱歌或是寫歌，的確具有相當的才華，而問題是個性太「屁」了一些，否則我認為他在歌唱音樂事業上的成就應不只如此。

John Fogerty說，這首《Proud Mary》他只花了不到兩個禮拜的時間就寫好了。其靈感主要是來自他剛離開了國民警衛隊 ( National Guard )，如起頭第一句的歌詞→ Left a good job in the city，其他部份歌詞也取材自不同的歌曲，像是→washerwoman named Mary、rollin' on the river。而前奏則是改編自貝多芬的第五號交響曲 ( Beethoven's Fifth Symphony )。此曲推出後獲得1969告示牌熱門百大的第2名。

這首歌也經多位歌手翻唱，其中較知名的版本為Tina Turner的靈魂唱法 ( 1971 Pop Charts # 4 )。當年國內唱西洋歌曲的歌手似乎也頗喜歡唱這首歌，包含歌友Ho兄說的高凌風。阿狗我也很喜歡這首歌 ( 好彈易唱 )，記得早年高雄大新百貨公司的對街有家龍門餐廳 ( 龍德飯店的地下室 )，以及花蓮的亞士都飯店，阿狗我都曾上台客串演唱過這首歌哩！

以下貼的影音是John Fogerty和Wynonna Judd 的合唱，Wynonna唱得實在是沒話說，但曾經的一位漂亮姑娘怎會「走山」成這樣呢？ ( 媽媽則還好，請看上一篇亂談。 ) 有人說，要知道老婆未來的樣子，看丈母娘大概是八九不離十。但我看未必準，未來會像老丈人的應該也不少吧。呵呵呵！
