我一直以為這首《If Not For You》是澳洲籍歌手Olivia Newton-John的歌曲 ( 因之前只聽過她的版本 )，沒想到寫歌和原唱者竟然是Bob Dylan。Dylan在1970年的8月推出了此首收錄於專輯中的歌曲，並有趣的是，他在該年5月份時曾和前披頭合唱團的主奏吉他手George Harrison合錄過這首歌 ( 未發行 )，而不知Harrison是太喜歡這首歌還是怎樣，也在Dylan之後三個月發行了翻唱版本。當然，Harrison有刻意的改編了Dylan偏愛的主歌唱法和橋段旋律；另，也免不了要加上屬於他個人特色的吉他「滑音」。

Olivia是依據Harrison的版本再稍加以改編，雖然在1971只奪得了告示牌熱門百大的第25名 ( 易聽榜則為No. 1 )，卻是她第一首的暢銷曲，也是她的成名曲。這首歌也將她推進了美國音樂市場，成為重要銷售歌手的一員。

有人形容：Olivia的版本聽來非常的優美，Harrison的版本雖然不錯，但平淡了些；Dylan的版本則有點「恐怖」了---Dylan是個出色的寫歌者和詩人沒錯，但他的聲音在他早期的唱片中頗為糟糕而且聽來乏味。各位覺得呢？呵呵！
