Intel's Cherry Trail and Willow Trail processors for tablets will arrive in the second half of 2014 with initial sample shipments of Cherry Trail to customers expected to commence at the end of 2013, Digitimes said. More details about Cherry Trail may be revealed at Computex 2014, according to the report. This isn't the first time the code name Cherry Trail has come up -- the first reports emerged last year. At the company's annual conference, beginning September 10, Intel is slated to highlight its "Silvermont" architecture for tablets and smartphones. Tablets using these chips should appear before the end of the year. Those tablets will support Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2, the report claimed. Intel's new platform for smartphones, dubbed "Merrifield," is also expected by the end of 2013 or early 2014. Intel declined to comment.
