NYC Google Street View now includes 9/11 memorial
A Google Street View of New York City's Memorial at the World Trade Center.(Credit:Screenshot by Lance Whitney/CNET)Those who haven't had the opportunity to visit New York City and see the Memorial at the World Trade Center now can tour it World Of Warcraft power leveling via Google Street View.Users can zoom in and out and "walk around" to view the memorial from different angles. Images from the north and south memorial pools feature the engraved names of the victims of the terrorist attacks in New York City, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pa. The zoom feature is precise enough to read each person's name.Google also has expanded its coverage of New York's famed Central Park. Working with the Central Park Conservancy, the Street View team photographed many of the park's trails, paths, and plazas. Some of the images are likely familiar to New Yorkers, while others may be more off the beaten path.Finally, Google teamed up with photo- and video-sharing site Historypin to show images of areas affected by Hurricane Sandy last October. A new album, Hurricane Sandy: Record, Remember, Rebuild, shares photos of several areas before, during, and after the hurricane. You can view a gallery of still photos or see different spots in Street View mode."In spite of the challenges, New York City continues to be a symbol of the American dream, an inspiration to people wow power leveling around the globe, and an ongoing source of pride for New Yorkers like me," Susan Molinari, Google's vice president of public policy, said in a blog posted today.
