第一次知道 Blowing in the Wind 這首歌是國中時代，英文老師在課堂上教我們唱的。初學英文的我，還來不及探究歌曲裡面的涵義，只覺得歌曲的旋律優美，唱起來就像一首詩一樣。
後來長大知道了關於 60 年代的事情，關於那個〔反戰〕以及〔存在主義〕的年代，人們拼命地探究關於生命的意義，以及拼命地反抗著許多不合理的事情。原來 Bob Dylan 在 1963 年的 The Freewheelin' 專輯裡面的這首歌，是在對人類生存環境做一種抗議。
關於那個我來不及參與的 60 年代，只能透過這樣的〔民謠搖滾樂〕(Folk-Rock Music) 來了解，關於那時代的年輕人的理想與憤怒。對於那個時代，我總覺得有些莫名的神往，因為那時的年輕人腦子裡的東西，不僅是物質享受，他們在乎整個人類的生存問題。於是，歌手寫出來的歌曲，便像是詩人在唱遊般，而透過音樂，更能夠深入更多人的心靈。
跟 Bob Dylan 比較起來，我更喜歡 Joan Baez 在 Live Concert 裡面唱的版本。代表名謠精神的吉他與觀眾的熱情，加上合聲男音所營造出來的溫暖感覺，使得她那原本就能夠喚醒人們靈魂深處的嗓音，更鏗鏘有力地扣緊我的心靈，就好像是一條孕育著無數生命的河流，在我眼前流過，讓人忍不住想去探索，那河流的源頭。
即使在將近四十年後的今天，聽著這首歌，也完全沒有在聽一首老歌的感覺。
關於生命，生存的問題，永遠都不會過時。
我聽到了什麼呢？追尋生命意義與尋求生存之間的掙扎；人性沉淪與自我覺醒是否成比例；自由的代價是由多少人的生命換取得來的？
或許當人們的心靈真正漂浮起來，俯瞰這大地，才有辦法知道，那隨風而逝的答案，究竟是什麼。
