"My Immortal" is American rock band Evanescence's signature piano rock ballad. The song, which was mainly written by co-founder Ben Moody, was one of the band's early compositions. It is believed that Moody wrote the song for his grandfather.
Though lead singer Amy Lee "felt a little distanced singing the song" since it was not about her own experience, people still highly praised her flawless vocal, believing that she can also relate to the song as it might remind her of her little sister who died young.
Evanescence reworked the song several times prior to the well known Fallen version and band version. The original recording in 1997, which appeared in the band's self-titled EP, featured two additional lines in the first verse and a different bridge (later rewritten by Amy Lee).

Many get to know Evanescence via the 2003 film Daredevil, where an airy version of "My Immortal" was used in a sad funeral scene. This version was then featured on the movie soundtrack Daredevil: The Album.
