Starry starry night

這首歌是美國民謠搖滾歌手Don McLean於1971年為了向一位終身孤寂的畫家致敬，而以畫家名字為名，發表了這首歌曲「VINCENT」。這首歌的主人就是Vincent Vangoh。梵谷死後他的作品被國際畫作拍賣市場炒作，然而他生前卻只賣出一幅畫，不僅窮困潦倒，而且孤獨而終。
很多人都知道梵谷，知道他是一位畫家，也許知道他割自己耳朵的事跡，更甚於知道他的畫作。也許我們應該感謝荷蘭銀行來台「推廣」梵谷，讓台灣人有更多機會認識梵谷。荷蘭銀行信用卡廣告，用梵谷畫作，搭配Don Mclean乾淨而誠摯的聲音，直到現在台灣人不知道梵谷有幅名畫「星夜」的，應該很少。
『Starry Night 星夜』，就是廣告開頭第一幅，這時Don Mclean的歌聲Starry Starry night…，也開始fade in。廣告處理的很好，讓畫作中間的漩渦旋渦動了起來，進而引導觀眾進入梵谷的其他世界。
Starry starry night,
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,
Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue,
Morning fields of amber grain,
Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.
廣告接下來則是『向日葵』，這是梵谷的最受人知曉的作品了，據說以「向日葵」為題材的作品，總共有十二幅。梵谷用色大膽，通常用黃色代表明亮的心情，廣告中當然還有跳躍的紫鳶花，Don Mclean對梵谷作品的色澤有很深入的觀察跟描寫，Flaming flowers(燃燒的花朵)、brightly blaze（熱烈的火焰）、violet haze（紫藍色的薄霧）、china blue（深藍色）、、、，因為Don Mclean深知梵谷，他知道梵谷內心的熱情，無法與外界溝通的障礙，都寄情在這些色澤裡。
事實上這支成功的廣告，不僅在販賣荷蘭國寶梵谷，也在販賣EMI的Don Mclean。事後這張專輯大賣，讓台灣20—35歲的族群，也愛上了這位創作American Pie為美國第二國歌的民謠搖滾藝人。而這張「梵谷之歌」VCD、CD內附辦卡申請書，等於是銀行業者突破了傳統發卡的管道，借助唱片行銷的力量「reach」新的市場，創造另種可能的邊際效益。因為梵谷以及Don Mclean都算是超優質的「商品」，加上行銷手法得宜，在荷蘭銀行或是EMI唱片公司來說，都是成功的行銷活動。

廣告的最後，又出現了一幅星夜，不同於CF開始時的那一幅，不過梵谷眼中的星夜，一樣動人。
Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me,
And how you suffered for your sanity,
And how you tried to set them free.
They would not listen,
They're not listening still.
Perhaps they never will.
梵谷終身為「熱情」所苦，他只希望活著的時候有人能了解他的感情。在他的作品中，有平凡的農夫，吃食馬鈴薯的小百姓，同時也愛上妓女，最後在他的唯一好友也是畫家高更離開他時，割下了右耳。Don Mclean說『They would not listen, They're not listening still. Perhaps they never will.』那些不會聽他的人，也許永遠都不會聽。而現在我們每個人都在商業的「推波助瀾」之下，都聽了「Vincent」，也都看了「Starry Starry night」，可是我們又真正能懂他多少呢？
