We compiled the articles in Sense’s blog into the book Taiwan Lambaréné. In the past three years, Sense has observed Taitung St. Mary’s Hospital closely and expressed in words exactly his feelings regard the place. He put these articles in his blog in order to share his feelings with us.
During the last several days, I have felt St. Mary’s Hospital has had a special and different character. I have read the book over and again and read between the lines. I can feel the two words “True Love” permeating continually in the lines of this book. “True Love” has three special characteristics: unconditional, unchanged, and all about opposites. But love is hidden in human hearts. It is hard for us to read a person’s mind. That is to say, it is not easy to guess whether a person has deep and true love. But St. Mary’s Hospital has the ever-lasting belief: “I love you because you love me!” We stick to our belief: “We respect everyone; we love life warmly and sincerely; we do what we should do unselfishly and without regret.” It is easy to examine and to detect.
True love is capable of being tested! Insistence is beauty! “Just do it! And then forget it! Then again, do one thing after another!”
In the past fifty years or so, St. Mary’s Hospital has done it! St. Mary’s Hospital in Taitung is just as Dr. Albert Schweitzer helped people in Lambaréné! The hospital keeps imparting to each of us: “Love is a contribution, but not a possession! Love understands when to give, but is not inflexible. Love is an action, but not a password! If you want to give your true love, just hold out your hands to do it! Actions speak louder than words! “Love without action is not true love!”
St. Mary’s Hospital concerns itself with “small potatoes and trivial things!” But we learn the real meaning of “True Love of life” behind the “triviality!” You are sure to feel the charm and action power of St. Mary’s Hospital which is located in a remote part of Southeastern of Taiwan through reading Taiwan Lambaréné! Because we love one another, we cooperate to do beautiful things together!
